Defining quality in health care

The mission of Surgiqual Foundation is to identify true measures of quality in health care, and disseminate those broadly to facilitate improvement in outcomes and quality for patients.

We strongly believe that value-based health care is not possible unless quality is defined for whom it matters most: the patient.

Surgiqual Foundation is an approved IRC 501(c)(3) private foundation.

Chairman and Executive Director
Dr. Nathan is a practicing neurosurgeon in Livonia, MI and brings years of health policy expertise to Surgiqual Foundation.
D. Timothy Lockney, MD

Director
Dr. Lockney is a practicing neurosurgeon in Nashville, TN and has a wealth of experience in patient safety and quality improvement work, having worked with international surgeon-author Dr. Atul Gawande.
James Madsen

Director
Mr. Madsen is a principal at Orton Development in San Francisco, CA. Having served on multiple foundation boards, his business acumen is vital to growing the scope and impact of Surgiqual Foundation.
Nadim Mahmud, MD

Director
Dr. Mahmud is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he practices as a transplant hepatologist. His research expertise is in epidemiology and predictive modeling of perioperative risk, and he provides technical expertise on quality measure development for Surgiqual Foundation.
Michael Wolf, MD

Director
Dr. Wolf is an Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where he practices as a pediatric intensivist and conducts research on improving outcomes in pediatric traumatic brain injury. He brings years of experience in clinical and translational research to Surgiqual Foundation, and helps pursue strategic grant opportunities.
